’Tis the season for new books and three more will be launched on Friday when Boularderie Island Press holds a book launch at 15 Prince St. at the Sydney Waterfront District offices, otherwise known as the former Cape Breton Fudge Company location.

The books to be launched between 4-6 p.m. include “Banjo Flats” by Mona Knight, “The Night Life of Chairs” by Charlotte Musial, and “Salt of the Turf” by Michael Cosgrove.

In the “Night Life of Chairs,” Charlotte Musial presents a collection of poetry where the author invites the reader to explore her seasons, her landscapes, her heart. The Scotchtown native trained as a registered nurse, then received a bachelor of arts and later taught essay writing, grammar and comprehension at Cape Breton University. Her personal essays, features, short fiction and poetry have been published locally, regionally and nationally.

“Banjo Flats,” written by Mona Knight, explores the life of a female gunslinger in Banjo Flats, the most lawless town in the Wild West. Although raised in Ontario, after many years as a correspondent for a Third World sponsorship agency, Knight retired to Cape Breton where she became a contributor to the Victoria Standard. She has also had several short stories published.

“Salt of the Turf” by Michael Cosgrove explores a segment of Nova Scotia’s high school football scene in 2013, highlighting the inspirational journey of a Citadel Phoenix player and the legacy of a remarkable coach. It is written by a former football player and high school head coach who teaches in the Dartmouth area.
