Arrest warrant issued for Grand Mira North Man

An arrest warrant has been issued for a Cape Breton man who was previously released on $75,000 bail while awaiting an appeal of his conviction.

Roderick Joseph Domoslai, 55, of Grand Mira North, was scheduled to appear in provincial court Thursday to enter a plea on a single count of breaching a condition of his release.

Among the conditions, Domoslai was prohibited from being in the community of Coxheath. He is alleged to have breached that condition Oct. 20.

In failing to attend court Thursday, an unendorsed warrant was issued for Domoslai, meaning he needs to appear before a judge in order to be released.

Domoslai was sentenced March 6 to serve a two-year federal jail term after being convicted on charges of counselling an individual to commit arson and counselling to commit perjury. The sentence also included a two-year probation period. The offences occurred between 2007 and 2009 in Sydney.

On March 30, he was released on conditions pending his appeal before the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal that is to be heard April 5. His release was secured by posting property valued at $75,000.

After being charged with the breach offence, Domoslai spent a few days on remand before again being released on similar conditions. He posted an additional $1,000 in property to secure his release.
