FINLAYSON, Brenda Louise

It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Brenda Louise Finlayson, announce her passing on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in North Sydney on August 3, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary (Russell) Gale.

Brenda was a deeply spiritual person. She was a member of many prayer groups over the years, and prayed daily for a multitude of people. Along with her late husband Walter, she helped numerous people in the community through many tough times, and was always there to give whatever she could.

She is survived by her sons, Randy (Nancy), Vick (Carolyn) and Sandy. Also left to mourn are her grandchildren, Devon, Bryden, Drew, Rebecca, Jackson and Taylor, and her siblings, Vic (Kay), Alan (Darlene), Joey, Michael (Julia), Tony (Janie), Carmelita, Lois, Nick (Gina) and Nancy (Earl).

Besides her parents, Brenda was predeceased by her husband, Walter in January 2017; her brother, Jackie, and her sister, Edith.

Her family would like to thank the staff at En Cala Palliative Care at the Regional Hospital, the staff of 4 West and 4 East, Northside General, and special thanks to her devoted sister Lois, who was at her side through the good times and bad; her love and kindness will never be forgotten by Brenda’s son’s. Also a special thanks to Mr. Greg Murphy, a lifelong friend and confidant and Mrs. Jennifer Jessome, part of the Nursing Staff at 4 West Northside General, the epitome of what a nurse should be.

At her request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. The burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney followed by a luncheon at the hall.
