Kenny’s Pizza has new location on King St.

- Gordon Sampson

Kenny’s Pizza is a fast growing business and has just moved from a building on High Street to its new and attractive location in the business district on King Street.

Mike Kenny is the owner of the new outlet at 109 King Street, across from Tim Hortons and next to Pharmasave. The new building opened on Thursday, November 23.

The hours of operation are from 11 a.m. to midnight except on Friday and Saturday when it is open until 1 a.m.

I grew up with Mike’s father, Howard, in North Sydney’s Ward Four in the 1940s and 1950s. Howard eventually moved to Sydney and established himself there. He and his wife, Catherine, were involved in the business in the earlier years but have long since retired.

Kenny’s Pizza started out as a family business in 1986, and to this day Mike operates 11 outlets in Nova Scotia.

Kenny’s Pizza is not only in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality but it is also on the mainland. Outlets are located at Sydney River, Whitney Pier, North Sydney, downtown Sydney, Ashby, Glace Bay,

“We are obviously very excited about our business in the new outlet which is totally renovated. We are thankful to the people of the Northside, and we are glad to be here.”

Mike’s North Sydney outlet opened on High Street in 2007 and has operated there for 10 years. He saw the opportunity to move to King Street, and acquired the present property there.

The menu in North Sydney is varied and includes items like appetizers, salads, poutine, subs, wraps, a large variety of ponzo (pizza turnover) pizzas, both regular and vegetarian, flatbread, donairs, pastas, platters and a mega donair bowl. There are also selections geared towards various members of the family such as a kid’s favorites’ menu to mom’s choice and dad’s pick.

You can also buy pizza by the slice.

They sell other foods such as mozza sticks, sweet Thai wontons, battered pickles, chicken wings and onion rings, tossed salad and chef salad.

“We are obviously very excited about our business in the new outlet which is totally renovated,” says Mike Kenny. “We are thankful to the people of the Northside, and we are glad to be here. Thank you all for your loyal support.” Gordon Sampson founded the North Sydney Historical Society on January 7, 1980, and selected the library as the centennial project out of 10 possible projects in 1985.
