GREGOR, Margaret Louise

-

With sadness, we say goodbye to our beautiful, kind, smart sister who left us on November 18, 2017. Born in Little Bras d’Or, July 1, 1922, she was the oldest daughter of Charles and Jean (Carmichael) Howatson. Predeceased by husband, Harry Gregor; brother, Everett (Marion); sister, Elinor Seymour (Mel); brother-in-law, Bill Cook; stepson, Harvey Gregor, his wife Bernice; and step-grandsons, Stephen Gregor and Ronald Gregor.

Marg is survived by siblings, Irene Cook, Barrie, ON, Ray Howatson (Barbara), Little Bras d’Or and Ruth Leonard (Walter), Sydney; stepdaughter, Jean Hennon, Bridgewater; and stepsons, George Gregor, British Columbia and John Gregor (Ellen), Marion Bridge; sisterin-law, Shirley Harvey, New Waterford. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and step-grandchildren who she loved dearly.

She was a former member of St. Andrews United Church, Little Bras d’Or and United Protestant Church, Sydney River. She was a long-standing member of #14 Rebekah Lodge.

As our oldest sister, she dried our tears, scolded (or was part of) our hijinks, coaxed curls from unruly hair, sewed many of our clothes, and read bedtime stories by lamp light. Marg always embraced life; marrying Harry at age 60, then learning to drive. She built her first new home with Harry at 83 and continued to drive until age 90. Her last years were spent at the Dutch Brook and the Cove Guest Homes where she received excellent care. Our heart-felt thanks to their so very caring staff. Thanks also to Northside General Hospital for excellent care during her stay.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Hospice Palliative Care Society or charity of one’s choice.

The funeral will be held at W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec.17, 2017. Interment at a later date.
