Florence Gabrielle ‘Gaby’ Doucette

-

Florence Gabrielle Doucette, 15, is a Grade 10 student at Riverview High School who plans to go into policing when she graduates. But her career goals don’t end there – she plans to then go into politics and dreams of becoming prime minister. The Mi’kmaq First Nations youth is heavily involved in volunteering in almost every event that takes place in Membertou, where she lives. Partly, she does it because it makes her feel good and she likes meeting new people but also because her mother’s family always did. They were “voluntold” as her and her mother say. Gaby volunteers on the Powwow committee, the Membertou Church committee, the Wallace Bernard hockey tournament and the Because You Care Cup. Aside from her volunteer work, Gaby enjoys playing soccer and basketball and doing arts and crafts.
