Mary Rose Googoo, 56, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Gordon Patrick and Christie Ann (Poulette) Googoo. She was a member of Blessed St. Kateri Parish, We’koqma’q First Nation.

Surviving are her sons, Randall Googoo (Melissa Young) and Gordon (Cammeilia) Googoo, both of We’koqma’q; sister, Karen (J.W. ‘Tiny’) Cremo, We’koqma’q; brothers, Chief Roderick (Danita) Googoo, Alexander ‘Sandy’ (Norma Peck), both of We’koqma’q and Gordon (Angela), Toronto; goddaughte­r, Susan Raye Googoo; grandchild­ren, Serena, Randall Jij, Brent, Cohen, Kaleb, Ayla, Deegan and Teddy, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predecease­d by her daughter, Christie Ann; godchild, Adrian Michael Francis; brother, Gordon Patrick Jr., and sister, Norma in infancy.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Multi-Purpose Building, 160 Reservatio­n Rd., We’koqma’q. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday from Blessed Kateri Parish Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, We’koqma’q. Burial at a later date.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Regis Frances ‘Peachie’ Cameron, 87, beloved mother, grandmothe­r, sister and aunt, on Saturday December 2, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Regis was born in North Sydney on May 11, 1930. She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Brewer) Burke. She was a devout Catholic, a member of St. Joseph Church and had a strong faith in God throughout her life. She was a volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, a former President of the Ladies Auxiliary Branch #19 Royal Canadian Legion, she was an avid bingo player, enjoyed horse racing and playing darts at the KOC hall and the Legion. She was interviewe­d by CBC Radio, a few years ago about her daily and weekly ritual of watching “Mass for Shut Ins”.

Regis is survived by her daughter, Mary (Jim) Cameron-Kelly, Greenwood, NS; her sons, Thomas Cameron (Paula Partridge), Oromocto, NB and David Cameron, Lower Sackville, NS; her four grandchild­ren, Cameron and Amanda Kelly, Erin and Scott Cameron; her sisters, Georgie (Vince) Muise, Sydney River, Marie Romeo and Monica (Brian) Shebib, North Sydney; her brother, Tom Burke, North Sydney, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predecease­d by her husband, Thomas Cameron in 1992; her sisters, Kay MacEachern, Teresa McKinnon, Vaughan Bagnall and Peggy Barrie, and her brothers, Michael Burke in infancy, Joseph and Lloyd Burke.

The family would like to thank Dr. John Kirkpatric­k for his compassion­ate care and the Home Care workers for the excellent attentive care given to Regis, during the past few years.

Visitation for Regis will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiatin­g. Burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
