Public needs to get more involved

-

I attended the municipal budget consultation meeting on Nov. 22 for the Ashby area and our councilor along with management representatives were there to answer questions.

It was pleasant and questions/problems were addressed to a point but it was obvious politics would get involved beyond their scope.

Job well done but here is my point. Only eight residents showed up.

Like everyone I hear the complaints at the local coffee shops but that and a buck will get you a cup of coffee. There were many more questions to ask and I’m sure if they couldn’t be answered it would generate some chat amongst our politicians. It would also let them know that we are watching and listening.

A case in point is the container terminal development. The details of that project are being blown up by the councilors like Trump and his Republicans are doing with their tax and medical care plans. In other words, never mind reading the details, just sign it.

Management of our tax dollars in all departments should be handled wisely and if not people should be held accountable. The old saying “that’s the way we always did it” doesn’t hold any water any more.

Having such a small number of people expressing concerns/ ideas is only giving our politicians the green light to do what they want. Ray MacDonald Sydney
