Free transit service for CBRM New Year’s Eve event

-

A free transit service will be available to and from New Year’s Eve programming on Sydney’s waterfront.

The Cape Breton Regional Municipality’s recreation department and Transit Cape Breton announced the move this week. The nature of the service will be determined after residents take part in a registration process.

“Accessibility to CBRMNYE for all of our residents is important to us as we celebrate our community and cultures together,” said CBRM recreation program co-ordinator Joe Costello, in a press release.

“Providing this service allows for safe and accessible transportation for residents regardless of where they reside, and is just another way that we get to be together for this great occasion.”

Registration for those who wish to utilize the service will take place until Dec. 28 at www. CBRMNYE.ca to help Transit Cape Breton shape routes.

Residents without Internet access can call 902-563-5510 to register. Those in need of the Handi-Trans will be able to register through regular channels associated with that service.

The CBRM New Year’s Eve activities will take place from 6-9 p.m on Dec. 31 and feature music from Port Cities, busker performances, and interactive cultural installations from Membertou First Nation and Lumière Art at Night Festival.

Fireworks will close the night at 9 p.m., programmed by Dominion Volunteer Fire Department.
