BLADES, Paul Havelock

-

We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Paul Havelock Blades, 72, of Donkin, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, An Cala Unit, peacefully in the loving care of the Palliative Care nurses, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, December 13, 2017.

Paul was born in Glace Bay and was the son of the late Pete and Mary (Boutilier) Blades. Although Paul lived his married life in Donkin, he always considered Port Morien his home. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting, fishing and trap and skeet shooting. In his younger years, he was a skilled hockey player, who was scouted by the Boston Bruins. Dad was devoted to the four women in his life; his wife, Catherine, and his daughters, Joanne, Paula and Jennifer. This love and devotion deepened when he became a grandfather. He was never content until everyone was present and accounted for at the end of each day. He left us with solid life lessons and advice, road safety skills and the constant warning to be “careful on the roads”.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Catherine (MacGillivary); cherished daughters, Joanne (Floyd), Paula and Jennifer (Eric); loving grandchildren, Nicholas, Lauren, Liam and Lindsay; chosen grandson, Jamie; brother, Darryl (Cathy); sister, Melissa (Wayne); four nieces, a large, extended family and close friends.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, Margie and Philip; son-in-law, Bernie, and chosen granddaughter, Sarah.

Visitation will take place Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at TJ Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS. 902-849-4199. Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, December 17, 2017 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Morien with Rev. Myrna MacMullin officiating. Interment will take place at St. Paul’s Cemetery, Black Brook. Reception to follow in church basement.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of CB County or the CB Cancer Centre. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family by visiting tjtracey.com.
