Protest rally set for noon today at Kellys Mountain

KELLYS MOUNTAIN, Victoria Co. — There will be a rally of support for protection of Kluscap (Kellys) Mountain and other protected areas in Nova Scotia today at noon.

The rally is a protest against the Mining Associatio­n of Nova Scotia. The event will be led by grandmothe­rs, elders, and other members of the Mi’kmaq Nation and is expected to be supported by citizens from across the province.

A group will be gathering just off the Trans-Canada Highway at its junction with the Kempt Head Road, just before the Seal Island Bridge on Boularderi­e Island.

The plan is to walk across the Seal Island Bridge to Kluscap Mountain. Organizers are encouragin­g people from across the province to come and show their support for this Mi’kmaq sacred site and for Nova Scotia’s protected natural areas.
