GAWANKE, TEAM GERMANY TIED FOR FIRST AT DIVISION I WORLD JUNIORS

Cape Breton Screaming Eagles defenceman Leon Gawanke and Team Germany (3-0-1-0) are tied for first heading into the final day of action at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championsh­ip, Division I, in Courchevel and Méribel, France. A win today by Germany over Latvia and a loss by Kazakhstan to France would secure Germany’s participat­ion in the top division of the world juniors in the 2019 edition of the event. In four games, Gawanke, a Winnipeg Jets prospect, is tied for the team lead in points with two goals and three assists.
