COUGARS HOLD ON FOR WIN

The Joneljim Cougars scored early and often before holding off a late Dartmouth rally to claim a 5-4 win in their final major bantam game before the holidays, Sunday. Brendan MacRitchie and Nick Mahar each scored twice, while Brandon Clarke added a single tally to lead the Cougars (7-14-2-0) to victory at the Dartmouth Sportsplex. Goalie Jack Cashen made 41 saves in the victory. The Cougars lost 6-0 to the All Credit Rangers in East Hants on Saturday.

Junior ‘B’

The Antigonish Bulldogs denied the Strait Pirates any pre-Christmas joy as they skated to a 5-2 win over the Port Hawkesbury, Saturday. Ryan Kennedy scored twice to lead the Bulldogs, while Josh Foster and Olan Spears scored for the Pirates (8-112-1).

Major Midget

The Membertou-based Cape Breton Unionized Tradesmen split a pair of weekend games against the Valley Wildcats in Berwick. Saturday, Seth Crowe made 37 saves to lead the Tradesmen (8-17-2-0) to a 5-4 win, while on Sunday Sam Gillis, Thomas Simon and Camdon Langlois scored in Cape Breton’s 5-3 loss to the Wildcats.

Minor Midget

Nathaniel Fuller and Matthew MacIntosh each scored a pair of goals to lead the Cape Breton Jets to a 6-2 win over in New Waterford, Saturday. Jonathan Dolomont made 17 saves to help the Jets (10-4-01) to victory.

Female Midget ‘AAA’

The MacIntyre Chevy Panthers dropped a pair of road games to the Northern Subway Selects in Pictou. The Panthers (11-0-5-2-0) lost 5-1 on Saturday and 4-2 on Sunday. Madison Corbett, Blaire MacKinnon and Nicole MacNeil were the Panthers goal scorers, while Julia Carroll and Taylor Cremo each played a game in nets.

High School

Sunday’s Cape Breton High School Hockey League game between the Riverview Redmen and the Glace Bay Panthers at the Canada Games Complex was postponed.
