It is with great sadness that we, the family of Violet Ostafichuk, regret to announce her passing on December 16, 2017. Violet passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving husband Mike, their children and sisters. Born in Sydney on January 19, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Lena (Crane) Walker.

She is survived by her husband, Mike; sons, John (Paola), Ontario, Michael (Sydney) and Johnny (Tracey), Sydney, and only daughter, Annie (Ray) Foley, Sydney, as well as 13 grandchild­ren and 3 great-grandchild­ren. She is also survived by her sisters, Lena (Ron) Walker, Ontario, Eleanor (Fred) Collicut, Chester; brother, Winston (Gerry), Ontario, along with many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Violet was predecease­d by her sisters, Anne Ivany, Elsie Walker and Kay Taylor, and brothers, George, Ira, Angie, Lloyd and Dave.

A memorial service to celebrate Violet’s life will take place on Monday, December 18, 2017, from 1-3 p.m. at Chant’s Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with a family committal service in Riverview cemetery to follow.

We would like to thank Wendy and the staff with Pallative Care, the VON and Dr. Bohariwall­a, her family doctor, for such great care and compassion, as well as Dr. Rod Wilson. Also, “a very heartfelt thank you to sisters Lena and Mag for being there and walking along this journey with me... I love you both.” Special thanks to everyone, especially Wayne (Poppa) Willma Dowling, Mom’s friends Thelma, Candace and her special lil buddy Jayden. Also “I don’t know what I would have done without my rock, my daughter Annie... I love you.”
