MACKINNON, John Alexander

-

St. Margaret’s Village

We, the family of John Alexander MacKinnon ‘Johnny John Alex’, with great sorrow and sadness, mark the passing of his death, on December 14, 2017. He passed away peacefully at the age of 85 surrounded by his loving family.

Papa will be forever missed by his eight daughters, Donna (Junior) Dunphy, Wanda (Lisa) MacKinnon, Marcena (Wilson) Boutilier, Jackie (Timmy) Timmons, Ann Aleta (Roger ‘Dickie’) MacKinnon, Kathleen (Allen James) MacDonald, Debbie (Eldon) Timmons and Juanita (Aundre) MacKinnon; 22 grandchildren; 38 greatgrandchildren and 2 great-great grandsons, as well as extended family, “across the path”. He is also survived by sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends. Papa will also be missed by his “favorite daughter” Beatrice who was very special to him and Mama. Also last but not least Dr. Nicola Smith who held a special friendship and bond with Papa. He considered her part of his extended family.

Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by four children in infancy as well as numerous brothers and sisters.

Papa loved the outdoors and spent most of his career as a Fisherman/Trapper. He had a great love for cars, his favorite being his old 68’ Pontiac. He also enjoyed a good “feed” of fish, especially when Dylan would come across the path with trout. Birthdays were a special time of year for Papa, especially when it came to his beloved Emma, who he celebrated faithfully with for the past 19 years. Nothing compared to the love he had for his soulmate, his wife, Marcella, who predeceased him last year on December 13, 2016. They were inseparable throughout their lives. He was known to have spent time in the garden with her planting flowers which most likely would have been black-eyed susans seeing they were her favorite. They were always together, always happy, and always smiling. There will be a void in the family without them, but they are together again, happy and smiling, we are sure of it.

Funeral Service, celebrating the lives of John Alexander and Marcella MacKinnon will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Asby Bay United Church with Rev. Carolyn Sharpe officiating. Interment will take place in St. Andrews Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Online condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.fillmoreandwhitman.com.

The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to the Nurses and Staff of the Buchanan Memorial Hospital and to the many Doctors who cared for Papa and Mama over the years. Also to the Home care staff (especially Nancy) and the Continuing Care Nurses, for the outstanding care and compassion shown to Papa and our family. Also, to Dr. Nicola Smith, you went above your call of duty for Papa and Mama. There are no words to express how thankful we are for all you have done. You are truly exceptional.
