Visit by Eagles well received

-

I want to express our heartfelt thanks to Cape Breton Screaming Eagles school visit coordinator Gary MacLean and team members Leon Gawanke, Ross MacDougall and Peyton Hoyt for the wonderful presentation they recently put on for our students at Sydney River Elementary.

Each and every student thoroughly enjoyed meeting Mr. MacLean and the players and had a wonderful morning of education and fun. The students were reminded of the importance of eating healthy, doing more physical activities, getting lots of rest, drinking water and getting an education. These are important messages coming from players that the children look up to. The students also really enjoyed cheering on the school and players in the scrimmage match.

I want to commend each one of the three players who came for their patience and friendliness: Leon, Ross and Peyton Hoyt. They remained equally friendly and patient after student number 221 as they were with the first one. They were extremely generous with their time and their visit to our high needs learning centre was especially appreciated. They are stars on and off the ice to us.

Mr. MacLean, as always, does a tremendous job of running the presentation and keeping the students on track and focused. His teaching instincts and great sense of humour still serves him well and it makes such a difference in the presentation.

We want to wish Mr. MacLean, all the players and their families a wonderful holiday season from all the students and staff at Sydney River Elementary – thank you so much! Kelly McNenly, Principal

Sydney River Elementary
