FRANCIS, Peter Joseph Sr.

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, have to announce the death of Peter Joseph Francis Sr., 72, of Potlotek, that occurred at his home in Potlotek on December 22, 2017. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Alexander Joe and Mary Agnes (Marshall) Nicholas. Peter attended the Shubenacad­ie Indian Residentia­l School as a young boy. He served as a fire fighter for the Potlotek Volunteer Fire Department and loved watching his favorite baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays, and was an avid goalie when playing hockey. He drove the school bus in Potlotek and was a janitor also at the school. He also worked in Boston, Mass.

He is survived daughters, Cynthia Francis (Quentin), Potlotek, Tabitha Francis (Eugene Jr.), Elsipogtog First Nation, NB and Charmaine Greencorn (Kelly), Sydney, who Peter considered as his daughter; son, Peter Jr., Potlotek; grandchild­ren, Maurice (Makaela), Tyler, Summer Dawn, Tenisha, Taya, Cassidy, Jonathan Peter and Cameron; great grandchild­ren, Sophie, Joe Mike, Jacksen, Greysen and Alexander; brother, Charles, N.B.; sisters, Lillian, Cathy, Marlyn (Allison), Rosie (Byron Johnson), all of Potlotek, Marian, Shubenacad­ie, Katrina (Tom) and Hazel (Ryan), both of Eskasoni; godchildre­n, Darrell, Laura, Lori, Gail, Mary, Charmony, Kenneth and George. Peter will also be missed by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and greatgreat nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his many friends and those who had the opportunit­y to meet him.

Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by his son, Alexander Walter Francis; brothers, George and Russell; sister, Margaret Nicholas; godparents, Ben Johnson and Charlotte Isaac, and godson, Edwin Marshall.

Visitation will be held in Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Chapel on Hwy. #4 in Potlotek from 4 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 until time of Funeral Mass. Funeral Mass will take place Thursday morning, December 28 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Antolin Asur officiatin­g. Burial to follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Barra Head. A salité will be held in the Potlotek Community Hall.
