NEW YEAR’S HOPES

As New Year’s Eve approaches, CBRM Recreation and The Cape Breton Post has asked some community leaders to give their hopes for 2018 in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.

Arts leader has great expectations for 2018.

Future hope: When I look ahead to 2018 I have great hopes. I see a more vibrant community developing in CBRM as a result of an increase in cultural activity. The implementation of the new Creative Economy Growth Plan will take us down a path that will lead to economic development that is clean, authentic and gives us pride. I expect to see more murals on our empty walls downtown and across the municipality. Already the presence of the Highland Arts Theatre and the New Dawn Centre has resulted in more people attending performances and more people working downtown. Now we have the exciting prospect of NSCC moving its campus to downtown Sydney. This will totally change the city in so many positive ways. There will be students out on the streets, in the shops and meeting for coffee. I look forward to more collaboration with the other communities within CBRM, through arts and community development projects. We are in the process of re-inventing ourselves in Cape Breton and there is much to look forward to.
