TORTOLA (Shaw), Annie Helen ‘Bunny’

Annie Helen ‘Bunny’ Tortola (Shaw), age 93, of Halifax, NS, formerly of Whitney Pier, Sydney, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, in the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born, January 23, 1924, in Louisbourg, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Bessie Shaw.

She is survived by her daughter, Marie Conway (Charlie), and son, Charles (Linda); grandchild­ren, Jimmy (Joanne) Conway, Judy (Glen) Rockett, Kathleen (Gerald) Brennan, Carol (Brian) Grace, Noreen (Steven) MacDonald, Charlie (Joanne) Tortola, Bobby (Lauren) Tortola and Beverley (Dave) Fiddler; 18 great grandchild­ren and one great-great grandchild, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Annie was predecease­d by her loving husband, Ernest; brothers, Sam, Jake, Charlie and Kippie, and sisters, Bessie, Jessie, Cecilia and Carrie.

Annie ‘Bunny’ ‘ Nannie’, loved spending time with her family, especially enjoying regular Sunday dinners or visits to Hubley, with grandchild­ren and greatgrand­children. She enjoyed cooking, knitting and spending time with her friends and was able to live independen­tly in her apartment prior to entering the hospital. Highlight in her life was travelling to Miranda, Italy to visit the village where the Tortola legacy began. After leaving her residence 15 Kitchener St., Whitney Pier, she was able to enjoy her new friends at 59 Baker Dr., where she was an avid card player. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held at a later date in Resurrecti­on Cemetery, Cape Breton. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 30, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Atlantic Funeral Home located at 771 Main St., Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Funeral service will be held on Saturday December 30, 11 a.m. at Saint Thomas More Parish located at 15 Caledonia Rd., Dartmouth.

Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
