MCDONALD, Ivy Bridgeport Glace Bay

-

We, the family of Ivy Mae McDonald, are saddened to announce her passing in the loving arms of her family, at home on December 23, 2017.

Mom was born January 7, 1930 to the late Danny and Daisy (Hopewell) McDonald of Glace Bay.

In her younger years she worked at The Co-operative Store in Glace Bay, then married our Father Cyril (Tip) and raised her Family.

Mom returned to work making more lifelong friends at Tasty Treat, Jay’s and Cara Foods Sydney Airport. When our dad passed away Mom needed to fill the void, so she joined the CWL of Immaculate Conception working diligently on their behalf. She was also a member of the Choir and Property and Finance Committee. She was very honoured to receive her 25 year CWL Pin.

Mom was fiercely independent; the go-to person of our Family. She had an open door policy welcoming all; but her Family was her number one priority.

Mom leaves behind to mourn her daughters, Donna MacPhee (Jerry), Patricia Chisholm (Ben), Rosann Hurley (Jeff) and Jeannie Phillips (Stephen); son, Cyril (Teddy); son-in-law, Melvin Mugford; sisters, Margie Calder, Windsor, Ontario and Eileen Norton, Boston, Mass, and grandchildren, James MacDonald (Tara), Tanya Mahar (Andy), Jennifer Parsons (Joey), Mark Mugford (Natasha), Krista Binder (Darren), Michael MacPhee (Mary Ann), Jeffery MacDonald (Krystle) and Braeden Phillips. Also surviving are her eighteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank our nephew Jeffery MacDonald who was a very special grandson and was like a son to Mom who was at her side throughout this difficult time.

Mom was predeceased by our dad, Cyril (Tip); son, Joe; daughters, Barbara Mugford and Donna Marie in infancy.

Visitation will be held at Curry’s Funeral Home Glace Bay on Thursday (THIS evening) December 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Mass will be celebrated by Father Danny Boudreau at Immaculate Conception Dominion, 11 a.m., Friday, December 29.

Donations may be made to Palliative Care or VON.

Condolences may be expressed at www.currysfuneralhome.com.
