It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Tim, our beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, on Friday December 29, 2017 at the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston, NS following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on June 18, 1963 in North Sydney, Tim was the youngest son of the late Anna (Keagan) and Roland McCarthy. Tim created memories at Memorial High in Sydney Mines from where he graduated.

Tim enjoyed meeting new people. He was able to interact with the public during his time working at LeMoines’s Grocery, LoFood, Rollie’s Wharf, and Steele’s Monuments in North Sydney.

In 1996 Tim joined the Superstore Family in North Sydney. Over the years he worked at their locations in Antigonish, NS, Chester, NS, Grand Falls, NB, New Minas, NS, and Port Hawkesbury, NS, where Tim has spent the last 17 years.

Tim will be greatly missed by, his loving wife of 20 years, Susan (Dewar); his brother, Joe (Carol) McCarthy, North Sydney, and his shadow and fur baby, Cocoa. Also mourning are his nieces and nephews, Jeff (Shelley), Dan (Lindsay), Robert (Jessica), Melissa, Sara (Steve) Laffin and Roland (Beth). Tim cherished his grand nieces and nephews, Seth Williams, Kiera and Breagh McCarthy, Adrian Dunphy, Penny and Mickey Laffin and Ava McCarthy. Tim will be also missed by his father and mother-in-law, Ernest and Mary Jane Dewar, and sisters-in-law, Patricia Dewar, Geraldine McCarthy and Francine McCarthy.

Along with his parents, Tim was predecease­d by, his brother, Mickey, and faithful companion, Coal.

Tim and his family will always be grateful for the many medical profession­als who helped him through his illnesses. His “chemo girls” will always have a special place in our hearts. Tim will also be missed by his many other relatives and friends.

By request there will be no visitation. A Funeral Mass celebratin­g Tim’s life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 4 at St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiatin­g. Funeral arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Patient Care Fund and Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, or to a charity of one’s choice.
