Kendall Thompson leads Tankard at 3-0

MacDiarmid lone unbeaten rink at Scotties

Kendall Thompson defeated Mark Dacey in battle of unbeaten rinks at the Deloitte Tankard provincial men’s curling championsh­ip on Wednesday.

At the Dartmouth Curling Club, Thompson took the game between the two Mayflower rinks 7-4 to improve to 3-0. Dacey stands at 2-1.

Thompson took the lead in the ninth end by scoring a pair and wrapped it up when Dacey’s last rock rolled too far.

Two-time defending champion Jamie Murphy of Halifax Curling Club recovered from a morning loss to beat clubmate Greg Power 8-2. Murphy is at 2-1 while Power falls to 0-3.

Stuart Thompson of host Dartmouth picked up his second win of the day by beating Mike Flemming of Mayflower 9-6. Thompson is also at 2-1 while Flemming is winless in three tries.

Chad Stevens (2-1) edged Brent MacDougall 6-5 in a battle of Mayflower rinks. MacDougall is 1-2.

In the morning draw, Dacey improved to 2-0 by making quick work of Flemming with an 8-2 victory in eight ends.

Dacey picked up two points in the third, sixth and seventh ends.

Kendall Thompson earned his second straight win in dramatic fashion, scoring two in the 10th end for a 6-5 victory over Stevens.

MacDougall scored one in the 11th end to hand Murphy his first loss, a 7-6 setback.

Stuart Thompson collected his first victory by beating Greg Power 9-6.

The men play twice today at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.

In the provincial Scotties tournament of Hearts, Kristen MacDiarmid of the Halifax Curling Club is the only unbeaten rink at 3-0.

MacDiarmid needed to score three in the 10th end for an 8-6 victory over the Lakeshore junior rink of Isabelle Ladouceur.

Ladouceur (0-3) scored one in the first end and stole three in the second end for an early 4-0 lead.

Three teams share second spot at 2-1, including Colleen Jones and Jill Brothers of Mayflower, and Mary-Anne Arsenault of Dartmouth.

Jones, a 14-time Scotties championsh­ip skip, handed Brothers her first loss, 7-4. Jones stormed to a 7-1 lead after six ends.

Arsenault scored three in the 10th end to beat Theresa Breen of Mayflower 8-4. Breen falls to 1-2.

Julie McEvoy of CFB Halifax picked up her first win by dropping Truro’s Colleen Pinkney 8-3. Both teams are 1-2.

In the women’s late draw it was: MacDiarmid vs. McEvoy, Brothers vs. Breen, Jones vs. Arsenault and Pinkney vs. Ladouceur.

To, the only women’s draw is at 2 p.m. and features MacDiarmid vs. Pinkney, Brothers vs. Arsenault, Breen vs. Jones and McEvoy vs. Ladouceur.
