Contest underway to name resurfacer

-

A local group is adding a little fun to the purchase of new ice resurfacer at the Dominion Arena.

The Mickey’s Original Six Hockey Society is hosting a contest to name the Olympia, for children ages 12 and under.

“We thought this would be fun for the kids, something to get them motivated and involved in it,” said Mickey McNeil of the society. “

The winning name selected will be put on a plaque on the front of the Olympia.

McNeil said there will be prizes for the child who wins, provided by sponsors. “We have judges that will be going over all the entries and selecting a winner.” Contest forms have been dropped off at some of the schools and they are also available in the lobby at the Dominion Arena.

Completed entry forms have to be dropped off at the arena by Jan. 25.

A ceremony will be organized at the arena to announce the winner. The date and time of the event will be announced when finalized.

“We will get a picture of the winner on top of the new Olympia,” he said. “We are hoping to have some fun with this.”
