The loss extends the Screaming Eagles losing streak to five straight games. Meanwhile, the Islanders snap a two-game losing streak.

Cape Breton opened the scoring just over five minutes into the game with Tyler Hylland’s eighth of the season, but the Islanders would answer seconds later with Cayse Ton finding the back of the net.

Gentile and Keith Getson added to the Charlottetown lead in the first period, giving the hometown Islanders a 3-1 lead going into the first intermission.

The Islanders extended their lead in the middle frame with Arizona Coyotes’ first-round draft pick Joseph firing a shot past Cape Breton netminder Kyle Jessiman.

Adam McCormick cut the Islanders lead to two at the 17-minute mark of the second period, but Joseph would score his second of the game, restoring the threegoal lead less than a minute later.

Cape Breton pulled to within two early in the third period with a Gabriel Proulx goal and, despite pulling the goaltender late in the period in favour of the extra attacker, that’s as close as the visitors would come to tying the game.

Matthew Welsh made 37 saves for Charlottetown, improve his record to 24-10-2-0. Jessiman stopped 31 of 36 shots for Cape Breton, dropping his record to 12-13-3-1.

Cape Breton went one-forfour on the power play, while Charlottetown went one-forfive with the man advantage. The Screaming Eagles outshot the Islanders 40-36 in the contest.

The Screaming Eagles and Islanders will meet again this afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown.

Cape Breton will return to home ice on Wednesday when they host the Saint John Sea Dogs at 7 p.m. at Centre 200 in Sydney.
