Capers women double Tigers

CBU men lose to Dalhousie in second game of night

The Cape Breton University Capers moved into second place in Atlantic University Sport women’s basketball standings with a lop-sided 83-63-win over the visiting Dalhousie University Tigers at the Sullivan Fieldhouse Friday night.

It was a big four-point win for the Capers, giving the team an 8-6 record, good for 26 points on the season.

If the Capers hold onto second spot, they will have a bye in the opening round of league payoffs.

The Capers never trailed in the game, taking a five-point lead after the first quarter and a 12-point lead at the half.

Leading the way for the Capers were Alison Keough with 28 points and 15 rebounds, and Hannah Brown with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Top scorere for Dalhousie were Michele Tchiakoua with 15 points and Robertha Charles with 12. Charles also led the Tigers’ attack with seven rebounds.

Cape Breton 63

It was a completely different story for the Cape Breton University men’s team.

Playing the Tigers in the second game of the evening’s twinbill, the Capers lost 97-63 to the Tigers.

Sven Stammberge­r led the attack for the visitors, collecting 20 points in the one-sided win, followed by Sascha Kappos with 10 points and Keevan Veinot with eight points.

For the Capers, Indiana Rotondo came of the bench to lead the CBU attack with 20 points, while starter Martin Campbell was next with 14 points.

Dalhousie led by eight points at the end of the opening quarter and increased their lead to 15 by half-time.

The Cape Breton University Capers men’s and women’s basketball teams are next in action Friday at Dalhousie University and Saturday at Acadia University.
