It is with great sadness that we, the family of George Franklin Jackson, announce his passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on January 31, 2018 at the age of 96.

Born in Ingonish, formerly of 5 Benson Dr., Sydney, he was the son of the late James and Emily Jackson.

During his working life, George worked for Parks Canada in Ingonish. He had the honour of being the very first Fire Chief of the Ingonish Volunteer Fire department, and served as the President of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 105, Ingonish for a number of years. During the Second World War, George served in the 3rd Division Signal Corps.

George is survived by his wife of 68 years, Noreen (Humby); two sons, Keith (Diane), and their children, Tara and Mitchell and Ken (Laura) and their children Brian, Ben and Sam, as well as sister, Evelyn MacLeod, Ingonish.

Besides his parents, George was predecease­d by sister, Margaret Hardy; brothers, John, Frederick, Harry, Alfred, Charles and Leonard, and James W. in infancy.

Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at Ingonish United Church Cemetery, at a later date, with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiatin­g.

Donations in memory may be made to the Ingonish United Church, or a charity of choice.
