CORSANO, John Joseph

-

The family of John Corsano, 92, regret to announce his death on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the Veterans Wing of Harbourview Hospital, Sydney Mines.

Born in Toronto, Ontario, April 8, 1925, he was the son of the late Cosmo and Lucia Corsano. As a teenager, John moved to Glace Bay with his family. Prior to enlisting in the Royal Canadian Air Force, he worked in the family business, the Health Dairy, on Senator’s Corner. John returned to Cape Breton where he resided the rest of his life. He began his working career in sales, first cars and then insurance. Later he found his niche in advertising working for the Cape Breton Post, followed by 25 years at CTV (Sydney), until he retired in 1990.

John was not quite ready for full retirement, so in the late 1990’s he assumed the position of “Runner” at the law firm of Sampson McPhee (formerly Sampson McDougall). He was a familiar face to those who worked in the financial, legal, government and business offices of Sydney and area until his final retirement in 2016.

John was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Alide Gracie, and his infant son, John.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Rita (Giles) Corsano; his son, Gary (Theresa); daughter, Elissa Lamont (Ernie); grandsons, Ryan Lamont (Michelle) and Tyson Simms (Katie); granddaughter, Breagh Corsano (Nicholas); great grandsons, Vinny and Isaac Simms; brother, Martin Corsano (Geraldine), and several nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces.

John was a person of great faith and was a longtime member of Sacred Heart parish and, until his death, St. Marguerite Bourgeoys parish.

John’s passion was first and foremost the love of his family and friends. He loved music, dancing, good food and sharing all these with those he loved at the family home. He was a wonderful, kind and generous man who we will miss.

The family would like to express their gratitude to both the professionals and friends who have provided support throughout this difficult time.

Visitation will be held 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 8 at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, Cabot Street, Sydney, Rev. Douglas Murphy will officiate.
