Glace Bay sidewalks need more work after storms

-

Another winter is here and once again Glace Bay sidewalks are shamefully neglected and woefully serviced after Major snow and ice pellet events.

Don’t walk on unsanded and salted walks people. That’s not going to get the proper attention to the problem. It only makes those in charge more certain they can cut corners.

Stand up, instead, and complain about the atrocious state this town is in. I was injured last January when it was the same problem as this year - untended sidewalks. When I complained I got nothing more than a carefully worded response.

Now it’s not even half way through winter and I wonder what’s next besides the fact that local seniors’ complexes are a mess as well. Nolan’s Lane, Valleyview and Paradise are in such a bad state they need to be seen to be believed.

People need to come together and state how upset they are about the way residents of Glace Bay are treated. How is a person on limited income supposed to get around when a taxi is $7 from there to any distance? Even around the corner! Why should those unable to barely cover their bills have to spend that just because our town can’t put traction dirt and salt behind their machines when they do decide to plow sidewalks? The excuse? Well, salt won’t work when it’s this cold, but that is bollocks. The next day when the sun comes out it will so what’s the harm?

This is my opinion and I’m stickin’ to it. If anyone else agrees, get in touch with your local councillor.
