The family regrets to announce the passing of Verna Pretty, of Marion Bridge, on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born June 9, 1919, she was the daughter of the late John and Ruth (Mollon) Foote, formerly of New Aberdeen, Glace Bay.

She was predecease­d by her husband, Howard in 1985; sisters, Olive Mitchell, Mildred Stoneham, Maisie Townsend and Lois MacKinnon, all of Ontario and Ruth MacKay, Glace Bay; brothers, Bill and Harold Foote, Ontario. Verna was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving is her son, Errol (Heather), Mira; grandsons, Errol Jr. (Dawn), Halifax and Scott, Mira; great-grandchild­ren, Tess and Luke Pretty.

Verna was kind and loving to her family and to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed. Verna loved to knit sweaters for family members, was a great cook, baker and homemaker. She was a devoted member of the Sydney Congregati­on of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Our heartfelt thanks go to Dr. Greg Myatt, Janice Black, Dr. Kevin Orrell and the dedicated nurses of 3A at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the wonderful care they provided.

At her request, there will be no visitation as she chose cremation. A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall, 786 Alexandra St., Sydney on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 2 p.m., with Mr. Brad Birch officiatin­g.

Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the care of Sydney Memorial Chapel.
