Cherished grandfather of Lindsay (Jay), James, Emma, Ivan, Stephanie, Caroline, Patricia, and Mary. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Grace Oldford; and his sisters, Faye (George Hoban) and Myra (Rock Filion).

Rich will always be lovingly remembered for his intellect, quick wit, and kind sense of humour by all who knew him, his extended family, and his friends. Born and raised in Glace Bay, N.S., Rich graduated from Morrison High School (Class of 1955). Subsequently, after graduating with his B.Sc. from Mount Allison University, he was commissioned as a Communications and Electronics Engineering (Air) Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. During dedicated service to his country, his 34-year career included postings that spanned across Canada, the U.S., and Europe (NATO Headquarters in Belgium). Rich will be fondly remembered as a highly talented, amateur craftsman and exceptionally gifted woodworker. A lasting legacy to his incomparable skill and one of his most cherished places, his lake-side cottage in the Gatineau Hills, which he built by hand, will forever warm the hearts of his family as they remember the many fond memories of their time together at Lac McFee.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Manotick United Church.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
