Bail hearing set for Sydney man on drug offence

SYDNEY — A 40-year-old Sydney man is to return to provincial court Wednesday after being charged over the weekend with a drug offence.

Michael Basil Ranni of Centre Street is charged with a single count of possession for the purpose of trafficking involving cocaine. He also faces a single count of breaching his parole release conditions.

He was charged after a joint forces operation involving Cape Breton Regional Police and RCMP last Friday.

After a brief court appearance Monday, Ranni consented to a further remand pending the outcome of a bail hearing.
