Cape Breton man alleged to have used syringe in assault

SYDNEY — A 39-year-old man will have a bail hearing later this month after he was alleged to have used a syringe to assault two people.

Edward Thomas Whitty, whose court file lists addresses in Sydney Mines and Sydney, is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon along with single counts of theft and breaching a court order.

The offences are alleged to have occurred Thursday in Sydney.

He is also charged with theft and breaching a court order that are alleged to have occurred last Dec. 30.

He faces additional counts of possession of stolen property and breaching a court order that are alleged to have occurred Jan. 17 in Sydney.

Whitty consented Monday to remaining on remand pending a bail hearing set for Feb. 26.
