ISLANDERS DOWN TRADESMEN

Calum MacPherson had a goal and three assists to lead the Cape Breton West Islanders to a 9-5 win over the Cape Breton Unionized Tradesmen in the final game of the Nova Scotia Eastlink Major Midget Hockey League regular season in Port Hood, Tuesday. Malcolm MacEachern and Fearghus scored two goals apiece, while Stephen Fox, Jack Morris and Darren Waterman scored and added two assists each. Chase Ellis rounded out the scoring with a single. For the Tradesmen, Thomas Simon and Kenzie MacKinnon both scored two goals and Sonny Kabatay added a single. In goal, Ewan MacDonald stopped 24 pucks in the win, while Josh Leudy made 39 saves in the loss. The cross-island rivals meet for Game 1 of the opening round of the playoffs Saturday in Port Hood.
