It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Martin James Delaney, formerly of Sydney, at the (Camp Hill) Veterans Memorial Building in Halifax on February 12, 2018 surrounded by his devoted wife, Ruth and their loving family.

Marty was born on May 15, 1919 in Sydney, the eldest son of the late Martin and Josephine (Dawson) Delaney. He was employed for more than 48 years at the Sydney Steel Plant.

Marty was a devoted husband, father, grandfathe­r, brother and friend who will be dearly missed. He enjoyed many activities in his life, among them skating at the Centennial Arena and he was an avid bowler for which he won many trophies.

Marty is survived by his wife, Ruth (Mugford) Delaney; his sons, Barry (Terry) and Brian (Kate) and grandchild­ren; David, Dylan, Kian and Erin. He is also survived by sisters, Margaret (Earl) Healy, Agnes MacIntyre, Jean MacLeod and brothers, Jim (Cecelia), Joe (Betty), Pat (Myrna) and Gerry Jr. (Warna); sister in-laws, Margaret Delaney and Marie Delaney and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Marty was predecease­d by his grandson, Sean Delaney; brothers, Gerald and Ron; sisters, Mary Tobin and Theresa Smith; in-laws, William Tobin, Ted Smith, Marty MacIntyre, Hugh MacLeod, George (Kathryn) Mugford and Harry (Mary) Mugford.

We would like to offer a special thank you for the care and support given by all staff of V6 West at the Veterans Memorial.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 15 at 2 p.m. at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, 40 Cabot St, Sydney with Fr. Bill Burke officiatin­g; a reception to follow in the church foyer. Internment will follow at Resurrecti­on Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to a charity of your choice.
