Còig to perform in Port Hawkesbury
PORT HAWKESBURY – It may be the dead of winter but expect the Shannon Studio to come alive when Còig performs there on Saturday.
With more than 30 nominations and awards, every member of the group has released their own solo albums and have toured both home and abroad before coming together as Còig. The group was originally put together to promote the Celtic Colours International Festival but has since toured internationally and was picked as Penguin Eggs Magazine’s 2014 number one new discovery. Fiddler Chrissy Crowley from Margaree has an impressive list of awards, nominations and international appearances.
Darren McMullen from Hardwood Lands is a highly sought after multi-instrumentalist, easily switching between guitar, mandolin, whistle and banjo. Baddeck’s Rachel Davis spends her time switching from international festival stages to small local dances at home with her traditional Cape Breton fiddle style. Jason Roach from Chéticamp is known for a unique piano style and an unparalleled intensity on the keys.
The Còig concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased from the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre, online at www.phcivic. com or by calling 902-625-2591.
