Screaming Eagles host Titan for back-to-back games

The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles will host Sydney’s Mitchell Balmas and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan for back-to-back games tonight and Saturday at Centre 200.

Puck drop for both Quebec Major Junior Hockey League contests is at 7 p.m.

It will be a tough challenge for the Screaming Eagle, as they face a team that’s one of the league contenders. The Titan are fifth overall in the standings with a 33-14-6-2 record and are winners of four straight. They’re also one of the highest-scoring clubs in the league with an offence that includes Balmas, who’s second on the team in points with 59 (37 goals, 22 assists). The 6-0, 188pound winger scored two goals and added an assist in a 7-2 win for the Titan over the Screaming Eagles in their previous meeting at Centre 200, Feb. 2.

Cape Breton, 12th in the

league standings at 25-23-5-1, are looking to rebound from a 4-1 setback to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada on Sunday. The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Screaming Eagles and marked the return of former Eagle Drake Batherson to the Nest.

Team captain Phélix Martineau has been leading by example on the ice for Cape Breton. The 20-year-old forward from Laval, Que., has 25 goals to go along with 26 assists for 51 points in 54 games to lead the team, and has already set career highs in points and assists.

After this weekend, the Screaming Eagles play their next six games on the road be fore returning home on March 7 to host the Moncton Wildcats.
