It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Anthony Daniel Morris, 61 of Eskasoni on February 14, 2018, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney with his loving family by his side.

Anthony was born on March 27, 1956, son of the late Leo Morris and Guida Mae (Toney) Gallagher.

He is survived by his loving partner of 8 years, Barbara and his children, Andrea (Albert) Marshall, Tiffany (Dominic) Lacasse, Halifax, Whitney Morris, Halifax, Jillian and Tarren Johnson, Chapel Island. He is also survived by his brothers, Philip (Sandra), Wayne, Roger (Ann) Morris, and Keith Joe; sisters, Priscilla (Jetta) Denny, Terry Lynn (David) Marshall, Annmarie Gallagher, Arizona, and Elizabeth Bernard, Whycocomag­h; sister-in-law, Sheila Morris; also survived by special niece, Cori Julian, thank you for all you’ve done; and by his many grandchild­ren, nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.

It is with deepest gratitude and respect that Anthony was raised by the late Matthew and Madelaine Morris. Anthony was predecease­d by his brother, Norman Morris; sisters, Florence (Gordon) Patles, and Bernadette (Frank) Denny. Anthony was also predecease­d by his brothers, Nelson Morris and Christophe­r Gallagher, and stepfather, James K. Gallagher.

Anthony worked in many different fields throughout his life such as Mic Mac News, Mi’kmaq Justice Institute, Unama’ki Police Force as dispatcher, counsellor at Mi’kmaq Lodge, Suicide Interventi­onist, Eskasoni Fish & Wildlife, Unama’ki Institute of Natural Resources and Eskasoni School Board as a Community Liaison Officer. Anthony also worked at Mermaid Theatre Company of Nova Scotia as an apprentice/actor/technician. He also attended Sheridan College of Applied Arts and Technology in Ontario which in younger years influenced him with his role in the Mi’kmaq Series and other artistic endeavours throughout his life. He applied his literary skills in his writings and poetry. Anthony graduated from UNB with his Bachelor of Arts, Major in Sociology in 2004.

Anthony was a man that influenced many people in his lifetime, he was a wonderful story teller and always had a funny story and a joke. He loved to fish and was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan.

A special thank you to the nurses, doctors, and patients at the renal dialysis unit at the cape Breton regional hospital, as they had become part of a special extended family.

Visitation for Anthony Daniel Morris will begin on February 17, 2018 at 7 p.m. at the Holy Family Parish at the Gabriel Center.

Funeral mass will be held on Monday February 19, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Martin MacDougall officiatin­g. Interment will be at the parish cemetery and salite to follow at the Gabriel Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Associatio­n.
