LEAHY, Mary Alice

With sadness, the family of Mary Alice Leahy would like to announce her passing on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital at the age of 88. Born and raised in Louisbourg, she was the daughter of the late John Archibald and Alice Leahy.

She was a devoted member of Stella Maris Parish, Louisbourg and a long standing member and past president of the CWL. She was employed at Co-Op Grocery Store, Lewis and Co and lastly, Fortress of Louisbourg Volunteer Associatio­n.

She was an avid gardener and baker, making chocolate chip and molasses cookies by the dozen.

She was a loving mom and grandmothe­r who will be fondly remembered by her son, Terry; daughter-in-law, Julie, and grandchild­ren, Adam and Kathryn, whom she adored. She is also survived by sisters, Dorothy Tutty, Louisbourg, Diana (Clark) MacKinnon, Sydney, and brother, Archie Leahy, Mira. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predecease­d by brother-in-law, Percy Tutty, and sister-in-law, Margaret Leahy.

For the last six years, she resided at Harboursto­ne Enhanced Care. The family would like to thank the staff of LeVatte’s Lane for their wonderful care.

Visitation for Mary will take place Wednesday, February 21 from 12-2 p.m. at S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Funeral Service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Evo DiPierro to officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to Stella Maris Building fund.
