YHARD, George Christopher (Chris)

The family of George Christopher (Chris) Yhard regret to announce his passing on Sunday, February 18, 2018, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care.

Born in Sydney, April 29, 1930, son of the Late Matthew and Mary (Murphy) Yhard.

Chris worked at Sydney Steel for 31 years. He was a strong union man, he also worked as a cross walk guard on the corner of Cottage Road and Cabot Street for many years. Chris enjoyed volunteering for many years in the oncology dept., he would also visit the MacGillivray Guest Home on occasion where he made many friends.

Surviving are his children, John (Brenda), Cambridge, Ontario, Mary, Dartmouth, Debbie, Sydney, Christena (Paul), Sydney River, Chris (Shelly), Sydney, Brian (Lynne), Sydney, Cary (Wes), Sydney, Derek (Doreen), Arichat; grandchildren, Joey, Kimberley, Shane, Joshua, Cindy, David, Ashley, Michael, Brett, Kyle, Brandan, Leah, Jillian; great-grandchildren, Riley, Gracie, Matthew, Dakota, Kylie, Hailey, Madison, Jesse and Gabriella.

Chris was predeceased by his three brothers, Matthew, Thomas and Gerald, and seven sisters, Mamme, Bridget, Marg, Mary, Helen, Dorothy and Dolly. Chris was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was also predeceased by his partner, Carol MacNeil.

As per Chris’s wishes there will be no visitation, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel ltd.
