The family of George Christophe­r (Chris) Yhard regret to announce his passing on Sunday, February 18, 2018, at Harboursto­ne Enhanced Care.

Born in Sydney, April 29, 1930, son of the Late Matthew and Mary (Murphy) Yhard.

Chris worked at Sydney Steel for 31 years. He was a strong union man, he also worked as a cross walk guard on the corner of Cottage Road and Cabot Street for many years. Chris enjoyed volunteeri­ng for many years in the oncology dept., he would also visit the MacGillivr­ay Guest Home on occasion where he made many friends.

Surviving are his children, John (Brenda), Cambridge, Ontario, Mary, Dartmouth, Debbie, Sydney, Christena (Paul), Sydney River, Chris (Shelly), Sydney, Brian (Lynne), Sydney, Cary (Wes), Sydney, Derek (Doreen), Arichat; grandchild­ren, Joey, Kimberley, Shane, Joshua, Cindy, David, Ashley, Michael, Brett, Kyle, Brandan, Leah, Jillian; great-grandchild­ren, Riley, Gracie, Matthew, Dakota, Kylie, Hailey, Madison, Jesse and Gabriella.

Chris was predecease­d by his three brothers, Matthew, Thomas and Gerald, and seven sisters, Mamme, Bridget, Marg, Mary, Helen, Dorothy and Dolly. Chris was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was also predecease­d by his partner, Carol MacNeil.

As per Chris’s wishes there will be no visitation, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel ltd.

On behalf of the family we would like to thank the following 3B at the C.B.R.H., Waterford Heights at N.W.H., Harboursto­ne Enhanced Care the following units, Spanish Bay and Miners Lane, also Dr. Murdoch Smith.

Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society with donations going to prostate cancer.
