It is with heavy hearts and deepest sorrow, the family of Donald Wayne Martin, 63, announce his peaceful passing on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Donnie was born in Dutch Brook, Sept. 19, 1954 to the late Mary Effie and Ernest William Martin.

Dad was a hard worker. He was a mechanic by trade with Canadian Tire for 25 years. Dad was the strongest and most courageous man, and always put up a good fight even until the very end of his painful battle with cancer. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was a gentle soul. He loved his family dearly and has left a great void in our family.

He will be forever and sadly missed by his loving wife of 47 years, Thelma Martin (O’Neil); his beloved children, Donnie (Crystal), Russell (Kari), Sheldon (Sheila), and Lisa (Junior). He will also be missed by his grandchild­ren, who were his pride and joy, Melanie (Justin), Breanna (Patrick), Jessica (Eric), Kayla (Matt) Dawson, Hailey (Kyle) Jaden, Keira, Kerissa and his special girls, Cheevie and Erin. Also, his one and only special great-grandchild, Allie Bear. He will also be sadly missed by his sister, Marie (Charlie), Deborah; brother, Robert (Valerie); uncle, Lloyd Martin; father-inlaw, Wilfred and special friend, Stephen.

Besides his parents he was predecease­d by his sister, Brenda Lee and mother-in-law, Mildred Pentecost.

Visitation for Donnie will take place from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. A celebratio­n of his life will follow immediatel­y at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
