Post-secondary poll numbers to be released
‘The cost of a college or university education is too high’
Members of the Post-Secondary Education Coalition will hold a press conference at Cape Breton University today to release the results of the 2017 public opinion polling on the state of post-secondary education in Nova Scotia.
“Nova Scotians have made it clear that the cost of a college or university education is too high,” Aidan McNally, chair of the Canadian Federation of Students — Nova Scotia, said in a news release. “Now is the time for the provincial government to listen to the majority of Nova Scotians and reduce tuition fees.”
This year marks 10 years that the coalition has commissioned public opinion polling. Each poll has shown sustained and growing support for increased funding to universities and colleges, replacing provincial student loans with non-repayable student grants and reducing tuition fees.
“The results show that 95 per cent of Nova Scotians are concerned about the current state of post-secondary education in the province,” said Teresa Workman, communications manager for the Association of Nova Scotia University Teachers. “From high tuition, to the outmigration of our graduates, it is time this government makes meaningful changes to the post-secondary education system.”
The press conference will take place at 9 a.m. at Cape Breton University’s Multiversity Room.
