County municipal council approved the recommendation from the hiring committee to hire Leanne MacEachen during a council meeting Monday.

MacEachen becomes the CAO immediately.

“Municipal council is pleased Leanne has accepted the CAO position with us,” said Warden Bruce Morrison. “With her previous business background, experience in financial management and human resources, she will provide the municipality with forward thinking and proactive leadership.”

MacEachen is a chartered professional accountant and has been with the county since 2014, when she was hired as director of finance. Before that, she was a financial analyst and parttime professor at St. Francis Xavier University and a senior manager with Grant Thornton in Antigonish and Alberta.

She is on the board of the Association of Municipal Administrators and on the provincial department of Municipal Affairs financial condition indicators committee.

Following the departure of Sandy Hudson, who retired last year, MacEachen has been the municipality’s interim CAO.

“We had a strong field of candidates — from 59 applicants we narrowed it down to the short list of people that we interviewed,” said deputy warden Larry Dauphinee. “We are pleased Leanne is the top candidate. She understands the challenges we face as a rural municipality. Now Victoria County can move forward with our CAO in place.”
