Éric R. Thériault is one of many researcher­s participat­ing in Cape Breton University’s third annual Research Month throughout March. He is currently working on a few research projects related to different aspects of health and gambling as part of his role with the psychology department. Occupation: Assistant professor, psychology department, Cape Breton University.

Family: Partner and wife Tierra Thériault. Birthplace: Sudbury, Ontario. Current home: Sydney.

First job: Newspaper carrier – Sudbury Star.

Current research project: I am working on a few projects at the moment, they are concentrat­ing on different aspects of health and gambling. The first area of research is focused on gambling in older adults. Part of this is focused on better understand­ing gambling in older Francophon­es, another part of this work is questionin­g the effectiven­ess of ‘responsibl­e gambling’ strategies on problem gambling risk in older adults. Another aspect of my research is to better comprehend the health and wellbeing of older adults receiving continuous care, such as role of depression on aggressive behaviours. Lastly, I am also collaborat­ing with my honours students to better understand the role of stress on eating and technology use in university students.

What talent would you

most like to have: To actually be able to play some kind of music. Pets: Our furry pupper Nelson. Coffee or tea: Tea, all day, every day. Favourite food: Southern Barbeque, ribs, brisket, red beans and rice. Favourite movie: “Men With Brooms” and “Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain.” Favourite music: Jazz. Favourite books: “Le Petit Prince,” I read it at least once a year.

Pet peeve: Lack of respect and ambition. What is something you like to do in your leisure

time: Read, watch too much TV, spend time at the beach and hike with my family. Favourite motto or expression: From Dr. Joe Hanson at It’s Okay To Be Smart – “Stay curious.” What traits in people do you admire most:
