Theatre Baddeck’s 2018 season will feature three Atlantic Canadian premieres and two high profile Nova Scotia-based directors.

The season will feature three entirely new shows running from June to October, with 66 performances in total.

The co-artistic directors of Theatre Baddeck, Christy MacRae-Ziss and Hannah Ziss, expect the 2018 season to be their best yet.

“The Ladies Foursome” by Norm Foster will run July 6-Aug. 18. It will be the Atlantic Canadian premiere of the comedy about four women who gather for a game of golf.

The play “Dancing on the Elephant” by Lisa Hagen will run from July 12-Aug. 15. It follows two elderly women at a Cape Breton retirement home who bond over martinis and their mutual desire to escape the home.

Both “The Ladies Foursome” and “Dancing on the Elephant” will be directed by Heidi Malazdrewich, who is based in Dartmouth and recently directed the Canadian premiere of “Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre.

Malazdrewich said she is excited about the new plays she will direct and the place they will be performed.

“I enjoy being a part of the development of new plays. I find the collaborative process of working with a playwright on a new script thrilling. I am looking forward to telling stories with Theatre Baddeck — and in such a beautiful environment,” said Malazdrewich.

The final play in this season’s lineup is “Pocket Rocket” by Lea Daniel and Gary Kirkham. It will run from Sept. 13Oct. 6. This will be its Atlantic Canadian premiere. The story begins in 1967 with five

friends gathering to play street hockey.

The director of “Pocket Rocket,” Linda Moore, was the artistic director of Neptune Theatre from 1990-2000.

Moore said she is excited to bring her talents to Baddeck to work with the theatre company.

“I was knocked out when I heard about this new theatre that had started up in beautiful Baddeck,” said Moore. “The vision and determination of the Theatre Baddeck team is impressive, and I’m looking forward to working with them.”

Theatre Baddeck’s fourth season will run from July 6-Oct. 6 at the Masonic Hall, 24 Queen St.
