GRANT-MACNEIL, Valerie

-

It is with broken hearts that we, the family announce the passing of Valerie MacNeilGrant on March 15, 2018 at Victoria Haven, Glace Bay, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sydney, March 7, 1955, she was a daughter of the late John and Vidy (Rudderham) MacNeil. Valerie always said that God works in mysterious ways & how true this is. She was a true angel on earth. She would routinely put everyone else’s needs before her own. Valerie had a beautiful spirit. She lit up every room she entered as she spread her joy to everyone in it. She never missed a special occasion, and made sure no-one else did either. She was the glue that kept everyone together. Worldly possessions meant nothing to her. She was wealthy beyond words and often claimed to have won the lottery with the love she received from family and friends. Val’s education & training consisted of her achieving her BACS Degree in Psychology & Human Services; Crisis Intervention; Suicide Intervention and Behavior Management. She loved her 18-year career at Harbourstone Enhanced Care as Recreation Programmer and adored her “work family”. Val also enjoyed volunteering with Transition House, Helpline, Detox, Women’s Rights, Palliative Care, New Dawn, Home Care, Every Woman’s Centre, Anne Terry Project, Elizabeth Fry Society, and the list goes on.

Valerie is survived by her loving husband, Stephen; children, Kenneth (Ann Marie), Karen Renee (Mark), Crystal (Hughie), April (Kelsey), Joey (Amber), Stephanie (Kyle); grandchildren, Austin, Amber, Ethan, Michael, Kelly, Bryden, Francis, Patrick, Jeffrey, Makayla, Kiyah, Tyler, Jamie, Haley, Nathan, Hayden, Aurora, Kyson; siblings, Carol (Wayne), Darlene (Derrick), Brian (Sharon), Gail (Kenny), Karen (Brian); Loving aunts & uncles, Theresa (Johnny), Rayonelda, Daniel, Josephine; As well as numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Besides her parents, Val was predeceased by a grandson, Malekkai.

Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday in the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be at 6 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Donations to the ALS Society of Nova Scotia, or any act of kindness, smiles, laughter to others would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences can be made at chantfuneralhome.ca.
