Sydney

-

It is with great sadness that we, the family, regret to announce the passing of Ruth Boutilier, age 82, on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Wallace and Christine (Payne) Burrage.

Ruth was a member of Church of Christ the King. She lived a very full life with a wonderful family and loyal friends. She cherished her time on the ski hill and the yoga mat, being the first yoga instructor on Cape Breton Island. Ruth and Gerald were part of the original team to build Ski Ben Eoin in 1966 and she spent the last 50 years devoted to teaching everyone she could. Her motto was “never give up being a student”. She will be forever known as the Queen of the Bunny Hill.

Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Gerald; son, Stephen (Shauna), Tanglewood; sister, Joan, Neils Harbour; grandchildren, Sharilynn Boutilier, Shannon (Jordan) Peters and Jeff MacLeod; greatgrandchild, Kacey Peters; and a close extended Boutilier family.

She was predeceased by her sister, Joyce Cadieux; brother, David; and brothers-in-law, Stanley and Vick.

Visitation will take place Sunday, March 25 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sydney Memorial Chapel.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Church of Christ the King, with Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.
