Show to go on – in September
‘Island Girls’ at Savoy Theatre delayed until fall
A popular, highly-anticipated show featuring four of Cape Breton’s best known female entertainers has been delayed until the fall due to a medical issue.
“Island Girls, Music and Comedy” was originally set for April 21-22 at the Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay, featuring Bette MacDonald, Heather Rankin, Lucy MacNeil and Jenn Sheppard.
The decision to delay was made when the show’s musical director and producer, Stephen Muise, learned he needed to have immediate back surgery.
The show will now take place Sept. 25-26 at 7 p.m., at the Savoy with the same lineup.
“It’s unfortunate that we have to postpone, but when you’re talking about someone’s health and well-being, there’s really no other option,” said Savoy Theatre manager Pam Leader. “Besides, we’re just picking up the whole show and moving it to September. So, if you’ve already bought a ticket, you’ll get the same seats for the new dates. If you can’t accommodate the new dates, we can talk about other options.”
Changing the dates is further
complicated by the show’s popularity. It had already been 85 per cent sold-out and Leader asks anyone with tickets to get in touch with the box office as soon as they can to make new
arrangements.
Leader says while finding new dates was difficult due to the busy schedules of the four female performers, the decision to postpone was unanimous.
“We appreciate everyone’s understanding of this unique situation and we hope we can move forward without incident,” said Leader.
“We were very lucky to be able
to set another date. But all cast and crew are happy to make the switch for the good of our cast member.”
