Cape Breton, Drummondville clash in Game 4 tonight at Centre 200
The Screaming Eagles hope to square things up against the Voltigueurs tonight at Centre 200.
Staying out of the penalty box will be key for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles if they hope to even their best-of-seven Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff series tonight with the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
The Voltigeurs, the highest scoring team during the regular season, finished 2-for-7 with the man advantage in Monday’s 6-3 victory over the Screaming Eagles in Game 3. It would have been three power-play goals, but an Eagles penalty had just expired when Joe Veleno found the back of the net for the eventual gamewinner in the second period. With Cape Breton up 2-1 early in the second, four unanswered goals by the visitors in the middle stanza were the difference Monday night, as Drummondville took a 2-1 series lead.
Screaming Eagles head coach Marc-André Dumont said following the game that some of the penalties his team took were “unacceptable”
and he expects better from his players tonight.
“We have to feel good about our game, and the only way to feel good about our game is playing it the right way,” he said. “When we play it the right way or almost the right way, we end up with scores like 1-1 after the first or a 1-1 third period.”
After Cape Breton skated to a thrilling 5-4 triple-overtime victory on Saturday in Game 2, it was a quick turnaround for both teams as they travelled to Sydney to play Monday’s contest. However, neither Dumont or Voltigeurs bench boss Dominique Ducharme used fatigue as an excuse after the game.
Ducharme said he was happy with Monday’s win, but wanted his team to be better for tonight’s
contest.
“The little details we’re going to look at and talk to the players,” he said. “But there’s not one point in particular right now that I’m thinking of, but there are many little things.”
The good news for the Screaming Eagles: they play both tonight for Game 4 and Thursday for Game 5 at the friendly confines of Centre 200, with both games
beginning at 7 p.m. They’ll look to extend the series back to Drummondville for Game 6 on April 1, and if necessary, Game 7 on April 3.
Dumont said following Monday’s game that he’ll announce his starting goaltender at game time tonight.
