SYDNEY — A Sydney man is to have a bail hearing April 10 after being charged with sexual assault. Kyle Joseph MacDonald, 18, of Hillside Street is alleged to have committed the offence March 31 in Sydney.
MacDonald made a brief court appearance Wednesday and consented to a further remand pending the outcome of a bail hearing. Aaron Curtis Mickey, 38, of MacDonald Crescent made a brief provincial court appearance Wednesday and is to return to court Friday. He continues to be on remand.
The additional charges include intimidation of a justice system participant, uttering a threat to a justice system participant and breaching a court order by having contact with an individual he was prohibited from having contact with.
Mickey was previously charged with two counts of attempted murder, four counts of aggravated assault, three counts of assault with a weapon (a knife), three counts of breaching court orders, two counts of uttering threats and single counts of break and enter, wearing a mask in committing an offence, careless use of a firearm (a .22-calibre rifle) and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The charges were filed in connection with a shooting incident last Dec. 23 in Sydney. Team director Felix Cacchione confirmed Wednesday that his office is investigating a regional officer but declined to release the name of the officer. A spokesperson for the regional police was not available for comment on Wednesday.
The officer has been suspended from the force pending the outcome of the investigation. No criminal charges have yet been filed.
The incident which led to the suspension is alleged to have occurred over the Easter long weekend.
The response team investigates deaths, serious injuries, sexual assaults, domestic violence and other matters of public interest involving police officers.
The team includes four investigators, including two civilians with prior policing experience and two police officers.
