-

The Construction Association of Nova Scotia will be hosting a one-day workshop next month on cannabis and other drugs that can be abused by employees in the workplace.

The session is meant for managers, supervisors, team leads, human resource and project managers who may have to deal with the realities and consequences of drug use in the workplace.

The workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 1 at the Cambridge Suites Hotel in Sydney.

The facilitator is Nadine Wentzell of Nadine Wentzell Consulting Inc., who has a bachelor of science (pharmacy) from Dalhousie University, a certificate and master of adult education from St. Francis Xavier University, and is a practitioner with the Prior Learning Centre in Halifax.

With 25 years of experience, she has worked to create effective, and industry-specific workplace alcohol/drug policies and programs for companies across the country.

The program will include recognizing the physical and behavioural signs of drug and alcohol abuse, legal and ethical responsibilities, discussing the hidden and real costs of substance abuse at work and interpreting the elusive role of testing in the workplace.

The cost of the workshop for members of the Construction Association of Nova Scotia is $275, and the cost to non-members is $360.
